Glutathione and Melanogenesis Inhibition

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide antioxidant (L-glutamate, L-cysteine, glycine) that inhibits melanin synthesis through two distinct mechanisms: (1) direct inhibition of tyrosinase enzyme via thiol-group chelation of copper at the active site, and (2) shifting melanogenesis from eumelanin (dark brown/black pigment) toward pheomelanin (lighter yellow/red pigment) by conjugating with L-DOPA intermediates. Combination IV Therapy: Glutathione + Vitamin C Synergy

Glutathione and vitamin C exhibit bidirectional synergy for skin brightening. Vitamin C reduces oxidized glutathione (GSSG) back to its active reduced form (GSH), maintaining the glutathione recycling pool. Simultaneously, GSH regenerates dehydroascorbate back to active ascorbic acid. Arjinpathana and Asawanonda (2012) studied this combination in a randomized double-blind trial (n=60) comparing glutathione capsules (500mg/day), vitamin C (500mg/day), combined glutathione + vitamin C, and placebo over 8 weeks. Safety Profile of IV Glutathione Therapy
