Intradermal Botulinum Toxin Mechanism of Action

Skin Botox Korea (dermotoxin) exploits the observation that botulinum toxin A affects not only motor neurons but also autonomic nerve endings controlling sebaceous glands and arrector pili muscles in the dermis. When injected at 0.5-2mm depth, the toxin diffuses locally to paralyze arrector pili muscles (causing visible pore contraction) and reduce acetylcholine-mediated sebaceous gland stimulation (decreasing oil production by 30-50%). Sebum Reduction and Pore Contraction Evidence

A landmark Korean study by Lee et al. (2015) investigated intradermal botulinum toxin injection specifically for facial sebum control. In a randomized split-face trial of 25 patients, the treated side showed 30-50% reduction in sebum casual level (measured by Sebumeter) and significant decrease in pore size (measured by VISIA) at 4 weeks post-injection. The effect persisted for 3-4 months before gradually returning to baseline. Importantly, electromyography confirmed no reduction in facial muscle contractility, validating the selective dermal targeting of the technique. Combination with Biostimulators for Enhanced Results

Korean practitioners have advanced Skin Botox Korea by combining it with biostimulators for synergistic skin quality improvement. Wu (2016) studied the combination of intradermal botulinum toxin with hyaluronic acid micro-injections (the ‘skin booster’ concept) and found the combination produced greater patient satisfaction and longer-lasting results than either treatment alone, with a 42% improvement in skin quality scores. The botulinum toxin component controlled pores and sebum while the hyaluronic acid provided deep hydration and micro-volumizing. Safety Profile of Intradermal Technique

The safety advantage of Skin Botox Korea lies in its superficial injection depth. At 0.5-2mm, the botulinum toxin remains confined to the dermal layer and does not penetrate to the muscle layer (3-5mm depth). Zhu et al. (2019) conducted a systematic review of intradermal botulinum toxin safety across 14 studies and 487 patients, finding no reports of facial asymmetry, ptosis, or expression impairment when proper depth and dilution protocols were followed. Adverse events were limited to mild bruising (12%) and injection-site erythema (8%), both resolving within 48 hours.
